Know How 2 Go
Know How 2 Go Kentucky
On February 9, 2009, the Council of Partners, along with our postsecondary institutions and other partners, launched Know How 2 Go Kentucky ( www.knowhow2goky.org ), a college access web site, in thirty-three high schools, public, parochial, and private, as well as five adult education centers, three Brighton Center programs, and two One Stop centers, on the same day. The "launch" of this informational web site varied from school to school, but every site distributed Know How 2 Go Kentucky t-shirts, pencils, and informational material, and provided information about the web site to students through various announcements and conversations. Admissions and financial aid staff from Northern Kentucky University, Thomas More College, Gateway Community & Technical College, Upward Bound, Educational Talent Search, and KHEAA were in every high school during the lunch hour to provide additional information and answer questions about postsecondary education.
The web site has valuable information for middle school through high school seniors, adult students, and parents/mentors. Many schools are planning follow-up activities, and the Council of Partners will be considering an event in area middle schools later this spring.
The Northern Kentucky event was one of a kind in Kentucky, and got lots of attention across the state, and also with the national Know How 2 Go organization.
For an idea of what went on at one area high school, check out the following Channel 9 video, which appeared on the evening news the night of the launch.
Know How 2 Go Kentucky is supported by a grant to the Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education. Sponsors for the Northern Kentucky launch activities include the Northern Kentucky Council of Partners, the Kentucky College Access Network, and the three postsecondary institutions. All KH2G materials are free to the schools. For more information, contact Polly Lusk Page, polly.lusk-page@nkces.org or 442-7012.
